Ford IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System) is the current modular diagnostic system to support the latest Ford vehicles. As a Ford Approved device, it is the only diagnostic system supported for use within the Ford Europe dealer and Independent Motor Trade network. The system combines rugged, reliable diagnostic components with the latest diagnostic software to deliver a powerful system to meet the demands of modern vehicle servicing.
Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS):
The Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) will be the only equipment that provides complete diagnostic coverage of current and future Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles in North America. The IDS package replaces the Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS). The IDS application will perform the identical functions of the WDS and allows dealership technicians to diagnose and service Ford, Lincoln, Mercury vehicles. As the new diagnostic tool, IDS will be required to perform diagnostics on future model year vehicles. One IDS Package is recommended for each WDS in the dealership.
IDS is enhanced WDS software that was modified to run on a standard laptop platform, and utilizes the VCM and VMM. Moving IDS to a laptop helps technicians by integrating access to both diagnostics and service information on a single, powerful machine.

The following steps may be required before installation:
Check your Internet Explorer Security settings:
Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools > Internet Options > Security tab
Write down your current security settings
Set the Default Level (for Internet) to Low
Temporarily disable your PC's firewall software
Temporarily disable any internet popup blockers
Temporarily disable any anti-spyware programs
Temporarily disable any anti-virus programs
After installation be sure to return all settings to their prior values

1. What is IDS?
The Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) is the WDS replacement tool that is made up of the following: WDS software modified to run on a laptop with XP Pro (SP2) Operating System, a Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) and associated cables, a Vehicle Measurement Module (VMM) and associated cables, and a laptop.
2. What can IDS do that WDS can?t?
Having IDS run on a modern laptop allows the technician the ability to browse the PTS website and search SSM's and TSB's. IDS is also much faster, thanks to the newer hardware platform, and will support future vehicle content.
3. What additional software is required to run IDS?
No additional software is required if you have a current VCM subscription. IDS software is delivered on a DVD with calibration files. It will also be available for download through the PTS website.
